Network forensics

Every incident, with its evidence.

Alerting you that something has failed is the easy part. Vigilatum keeps what happened on your network at that moment – when, how long it lasted and where the failure was – sealed, so that your IT technician can fix it sooner and you can prove it afterwards.

  • Evidence sealed at the time
  • Ready for complaints
  • Saved automatically
Vigilatum report with the month’s availability, network health and incidents

The incident record

What remains of every incident.

When a fault is confirmed, Vigilatum opens its incident record and completes it automatically, without you having to do anything.

The timeline

When the problem started, when it was confirmed and when it recovered, to the second.

The cause

Where the failure was – your network, your internet provider or the service – and on what evidence that was decided.

The moment of failure

A technical record of what was happening on the network, so that your IT technician does not have to reproduce the fault.

The seal

The evidence is sealed when it is saved: you can verify that nobody has touched it since.

Why it is forensic

It was watching when it failed.

  1. Already monitoring

By the time someone notices a failure, whatever caused it has already happened. Vigilatum does not wait for you to report it: the moment of failure is already recorded.

  2. Confirmed and sealed

When the fault is confirmed, the evidence is saved and sealed at that very instant. Exactly as it was seen at the time.

  3. The incident record remains

Timeline, cause, duration and evidence, on your dashboard and in the monthly report. To fix it, to complain or to explain it.

What it is for

The same evidence serves a different purpose for each person.

For your IT technician

They get to the fault knowing what was happening at that moment, instead of trying to reproduce it.

For complaints to your ISP

Date, time, duration and cause of every outage, to document the complaint.

How to complain

For management

How many hours were lost, why and who was responsible for each failure, in the monthly report.

Frequently asked questions

About network forensics.

What is network forensics?

It means reconstructing, with evidence, what happened on a network during a failure: when it started, where it broke and how long it lasted. We explain it from scratch.

Do I have to do anything for the evidence to be saved?

No. It is saved and sealed automatically as soon as a fault is confirmed, day or night.

Can it be used as evidence with my internet provider?

It can be used to document the complaint with dates, times, duration and cause. How the internet provider assesses it – or, where applicable, Spain’s Telecommunications User Office (Oficina de Atención al Usuario de Telecomunicaciones) – is up to them. How to complain step by step.

Does the evidence capture what my employees write?

That is not its purpose. The technical record is only taken when something fails, and most traffic today is encrypted at source: it shows how the network was responding, not the content.

How long is the evidence kept?

Each type of data has its own retention period: only as long as is strictly needed to diagnose and to complain. The exact periods are set out in the privacy policy.
